Avocado – The Superfood Your Skin Needs

Silky smooth and one of nature’s superfoods, avocados are not just tasty on toast but beloved in the skincare industry as well. Extremely nourishing all-rounders, avocados contain vitamins A, various B vitamins, C, E and K as well as potassium and carotenoids. It’s no surprise that they’re labelled as one of the most nutrient-dense fruits you can get your hands on. All these nourishing properties go towards improving the skin. Plentiful in vitamin A, avocados are believed to help the skin rid itself of dead skin cells, thus promoting glowing, smooth skin. The carotenoids present in this fruit are also said to help protect the skin against harmful UV rays and various toxins that threaten to damage the skin.

One of the great things about avocados is their versatility. You can eat them as they are, or add them to your favorite smoothie or salad. They also make a great DIY mask – their anti-inflammatory properties are really beneficial in helping to fight redness and wrinkles, which is why they unequivocally live up to the hype.

Aside from their edibility and mask potential, avocado oil is one product that has brought a substantial amount of fame to this nutritious fruit. A highly moisturizing product of this fruit, avocado oil is especially good for skin that’s in desperate need of some hydration. Due to its comedogenic rating being on the higher side, however, it’s best suited to dry, mature and combination skin (in moderation) rather than oilier types. If you’re prone to excess grease, use this oil sparingly, and on the drier areas of your face to avoid breakouts. Because it’s a gentle oil, avocado is also helpful for skin prone to sensitivity.
