Pomegranate

Pomegranate Is Your Skin’s Best Friend

Pomegranate. Whether in its natural fruit form or as an oil, it’s very nourishing to both body and skin. In 2019, a clinical trial was undertaken with the purpose of exploring the anti-aging effects of the metabolite Urolithin A (or simply UA) which is produced by the body (specifically the gut) after consuming the ellagitannins that are found in pomegranates. UA has been reported to have a positive influence on cellular and mitochondrial health. Mitochondria are, in essence, the batteries from which our cells draw their power. When we’re young, our cells are able to easily discard and repurpose damaged mitochondria, but we start to inevitably lose this ability as our body ages. This causes tissue weakness in the body as well as a drop-off in skeletal muscle mass. By utilizing the benefits of UA to our advantage, we could be looking at a way to help restore this ability and, therefore, fight the signs of aging. Though more research is needed to provide concrete results on the subject, we’re certainly excited to see what this could do for the anti-aging skincare market.

Pomegranate seed oil is a popular product that has many strings to its metaphorical, anti-aging bow. This fruity oil is highly moisturizing, not to mention anti-inflammatory, with gentle toning effects. High in antioxidants and polyphenols, pomegranate seed oil is said to help protect the skin against free radical and UV damage. Being a non-comedogenic oil, it’s also suitable for most skin types.

It’s fair to say that, especially in recent years, pomegranate has scaled the ranks and has now been proclaimed to be a superfood. Even just eating them has been said to benefit your bodily health. Because they’re so rich in antioxidants and polyphenols, munching on pomegranate seeds have been reported to provide health benefits and even help to balance out the skin. Its hydrating properties are said to be valuable for oily and dry skin alike – adding a non-comedogenic oil into your routine can really help to balance out the sebum production of oily skin and restore moisture to drier skin.
